Freeman Awards for Magdalen College School

The Freeman Awards scheme are awarded to the best apprentices in a number of areas in and around Oxford.  Magdalen College School;

Germain, a chef from Magdalen College School was awarded Best Apprentice for Catering Services. Through the apprenticeship scheme Germain has already achieved plenty of skills: City & Guilds NVQ L2 Professional Cookery, Sodexo Salon Culinaire Apprenticeship Category Bronze Medal Award2014.He keeps on working hard  and he already has new goals.

“Prior to working at Magdalen College School I had started a career as an Electrical Engineer but I knew this wasn’t what I really wanted to do.  Once I realised that the kitchen environment was where I wanted to work, I worked hard to gain promotions and to show my commitment to my employer. This paid off as they promoted me and supported my training in my Apprenticeship.

I have also been nominated for the Sodexo Salon Culinaire awards which has given me an opportunity to promote Sodexo at Magdalen College to the whole Sodexo team and my employer sees me as an ambassador for the company.  My employer supports me in the competitions because she says I display the Sodexo values of Team Spirit and Progress Spirit” said Germain.

Victoria Hicks his manager  commented "Germain came to this vocation late, but has shown a determination to achieve and that makes him a key asset to the organisation. I would describe him as a “solid stable product” of the apprenticeship scheme. This apprenticeship has given Germain direction a focus and grounding which he lacked 5 years ago when he joined Sodexo and he has taken on the training despite domestic commitments.  Germain doesn’t always realise what he has achieved and I hope this award helps him to see this."
