Wills team are just like family

The Independents by Sodexo team at Bedford School is a great example of how the company embraces a diverse and inclusive workforce who work flexibly.

Independents by Sodexo is delighted to have renewed its catering and cleaning contract at Bedford School where general services manager Will Dixon MBE heads a team from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Will took charge of the team just a year ago, switching to “civvy street” from a long catering career in the RAF, but he’s working with a group of people who have many more years’ service at the independents boarding and day school for boys aged seven to 18.

“Boys come here, grow up and then come back to visit – and I’m still here,” said dining hall supervisor Nicky, who has been with the school for 20 years.

Front of house assistant Janice has worked at the school for 32 years and she said “When the Old Bedfordians come back they come and see me and have a cup of tea.”

Two famous Old Bedfordians are England cricketing hero Alistair Cook and Northants cricketer Alex Wakely.

Will’s onsite team include staff from various countries including: Watsana from Thailand (eight years’ service); Julienne from Reunion Island, a French colony near Mauritius (10 years’ service); Anna from Italy (seven years’ service) and chef de partie, Jomon, from Kerala in Southern India.
