Renowned food critic and writer Matthew Fort visits LVS Ascot

LVS Ascot invited Matthew Fort, author of several award-winning books on food and former food and drink critic of the Guardian, to the school on Thursday 9 June to put our lunch menu to the test and see how we provide such an excellent and diverse menu to such a large number of pupils.

Matthew chatted to Independents by Sodexo Group Catering Manager Jim Gavin and marvelled at the efficiency of serving over 1,000 meals of such diversity over lunchtime. He was shown around the kitchens by Head Chef Lea Eastman-Thompson and met all of the members of the team that contribute to LVS Ascot's highly rated catering provision.

Matthew was impressed by the way in which he said school food had evolved into such a substantial and healthy process, and the awareness that existed of the connection between good, healthy food and effective learning which he said was striking at LVS Ascot.

He enjoyed a pulled pork burrito, fruit and a hot dessert whilst noting the excellent relationship between Sodexo and LVS Ascot with a committed catering team fully embedded into the school.

"The range of food on offer to pupils at LVS Ascot is very intelligent, carefully structured and very varied. There is something for everyone whatever their taste, and it is impressively displayed to create excitement around the abundance and variety of items on offer for pupils" said Matthew.
