Allergen Management

Every Pupil Deserves to Eat With Confidence

With food allergies and intolerances on the rise, managing them safely is our top priority. We’ve built a strong safety culture across all our teams through clear policies, procedures, and regular training. Our ongoing training ensures staff stay confident and well-informed in managing allergens and special diets. This collaborative, proactive approach places pupil health and well-being at the heart of every meal.

Our Allergen Champions

While all staff undertake mandatory allergen training every six months, we also make sure there is a designated Allergen Champion on duty at every service. These staff members have received added training and are responsible for ensuring best practices are applied at all times.

Our Labelling Process

To guarantee we are fully compliant with the law, we follow a straightforward purple allergen labelling system that identifies foods containing any of the 14 major allergens.

Using only purple labels, products are either marked by the allergens they contain, the letters N/A, meaning no allergens, or the letter M/C, meaning they may contain (where a product may have been produced in a factory where cross-contamination may occur).

No other labelling is permitted.

Special Diet Forms

Our Special Diets Folder records pupils with allergies or special dietary requirements. This includes their name, year group, form, and any specific control measures needed to ensure their safety. This folder is always kept onsite for easy staff reference and regular updates.

We also work closely with schools to establish a clear and practical approach to identifying pupils with dietary needs, from displaying their photo in the school kitchen to issuing a coloured wristband to creating a dedicated service counter. Anything that will make the pupil safe and comfortable.
