Fun-filled Theme Days
Led by Catering Manager Matthew Ferguson and Head Chef Stephen Wolstenholme, our team delivers a high-quality food service all year round which dovetails with the school curriculum. Recently when the school ran a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory drama production all week, our team created some breathtaking decorations to celebrate the theme, while our chefs cooked an array of delicious treats including parma violet flavoured cupcakes and even purple bread! Our team dressed up as Oompa Loompas and interacted with pupils at the counters to present the culinary delights on offer. Other recent theme days have included curry day, red nose day and valentine’s day, when our team takes great pride in dressing the counters.
Recognising Our Head Chef
In recognition of Head Chef Stephen Wolstenholme’s exceptional talent and thirst to learn new skills to bring to the King’s kitchen, he was selected to take part in our Global Chef programme, which saw him spend two weeks in the USA. The aim of the programme was to share culinary experiences with chefs across the pond, learning about new culinary techniques and dishes. During the whirlwind tour Stephen experienced exceptional hospitality and cooked alongside American chefs catering for large events. The new skills Stephen has brought back to the King’s kitchen has further benefited the variety and quality of our food offer at the school.
Engaging With Pupils
Sustainable Solutions
With sustainability high on the agenda for our client and our business, we’ve introduced a zero plastics policy. As part of this, we’ve invested £1000 in King’s branded reusable water bottles which pupils can use for school trips and sports days. We’re also raising awareness about food waste among the school community through our food waste recycling initiative. All food waste (including food peelings) is deposited in separate bins which are strategically placed in the school kitchen and dining hall before collection by a specialist waste company, which undertakes an anaerobic digestion process to recycle the waste fully. Furthermore, our investment in a new eco-friendly dishwasher for the school following our cost analysis is helping our client make savings on energy costs in the long term. These initiatives are helping reduce the school’s carbon emissions and progress in our ambition to reach net zero by 2040.
Catering for Formal Events
Our team caters for a vast array of events at King’s, ranging from Bursar conferences to summer barbecues, parents’ association evenings and a five course plated scholars’ dinner. We also support fundraising events such as the annual charity day onsite by supplying food to the school free of charge. The breadth and finesse of our hospitality offer has been a source of delight to visitors, who frequently comment on the quality of our service, enabling Headmaster George Hartley to showcase life at King’s.
