Comprehensive Services for a Dynamic Campus

A prestigious coeducational boarding and day school for 1,140 pupils located in Berkshire, Wellington College first outsourced services to Sodexo in 1951, with our contract last renewed in 2023 for a further 10 year tenure. With our services at the College including core feeding seven days per week, facilities management services and extensive hospitality catering, Wellington’s vast 400 acre estate requires a large, flexible and multi-skilled Sodexo team. Led by Contract Director Tim Furnival, we co-ordinate and manage our services to meet and exceed the high expectations of pupils and parents.

Hospitality and Events

Our team caters for a great array of events at Wellington, including summer barbecues, weddings, formal black tie dinners and working lunches.

Last year we supported the College’s annual Speech Day, a highlight of the school year which celebrates outstanding performance among pupils. With approximately 3,500 people in attendance, we teamed up with over 100 colleagues from our Sodexo Live! business who are responsible for catering at Ascot Racecourse. With a delectable menu crafted by Gemma Amor, Executive Chef at Ascot, guests at Wellington enjoyed delicious, seasonal dishes including grilled free-range chicken tikka, rustic breads and a range of plant-based options like sweet potato falafel before tucking into a trio of desserts including key lime pie and mango and coconut delice.

By making full use of our onsite team’s extensive knowledge of Speech Day operations and maintaining strong communication with the College, we delivered an overwhelmingly successful event to the delight of our client.

The V&A Café – A Bespoke Food Destination

To take the food experience at Wellington to the next level, we worked with our professional design team to create the V&A café, a beautiful contemporary location with the flexibility of an all-day retail café including the core school menu alongside a range of healthy, sustainable snacks and an impressive array of coffees and other hot and cold drinks.

With comfortable seating and a bright décor reflecting the College’s trademark colours, the V&A provides a welcoming space for pupils to relax and socialise – a far cry from traditional school tuck shops and kiosks.

The café offers a live cooking theatre, a waterfall salad bar, hydration stations and bespoke compostable bin systems. The “Home Cinema” digital screen coupled with a state of the art audio system allows pupils to watch performances, lectures and live sporting events over their food, further enhancing the customer experience at Wellington.

Facilities Management Services

With our FM services to Wellington including waste collections, portering, cleaning, housekeeping and laundry, we have a dedicated General Services Manager for Domestic and Logistics onsite – Graham Heffer. Drawing on his 20 years’ experience within the industry, Graham is committed to delivering continual innovation to FM services at the College. This has seen us shift our focus to robotics to enhance cleaning productivity, investing in “co-bots” which work alongside our housekeeping team at Wellington to generate efficiencies and complete heavy lifting tasks.

A further advantage of this approach is the enhancement of our safety record onsite by reducing the risk of injury from lifting duties. Graham also works in conjunction with our suppliers including Makita, who sent five Japanese engineers to Wellington last year to view our service and request suggestions for improvements to their products. They returned to Japan to incorporate our recommendations in a prototype for a new cleaning machine which the team onsite will be among the first to trial – ensuring we sustain an innovative, world class service at Wellington College.
